Mary Hoffman, President

Mary Hoffman is a native Floridan and has embraced a love for “everything ocean” since childhood. She immediately gravitated to the Marine Science Center and The Friends of the Marine Science Center when moving to Ponce Inlet in 2008, and has served on the Friend's Board for several years. She continues to volunteer at the center where she loves to educate patrons on the Turtle Terrace.
Where Community Meets Conservation

Friends of the Marine Science Center was founded in November 2001 by a dedicated group of volunteers who shared a passion for protecting Florida’s coastal wildlife. Formed just ahead of the opening of the Marine Science Center in 2002, the organization was created to provide vital support for the rehabilitation of injured sea turtles and shorebirds, environmental education, and public outreach. From the very beginning, volunteers and community members played a central role in helping the Center fulfill its mission of conservation, rescue, and learning.

Since its founding, Friends of the Marine Science Center has served as the nonprofit partner to the Marine Science Center, raising funds and providing resources that enhance exhibits, animal care, and educational experiences for visitors of all ages. Through donations, grants, and fundraising efforts, the Friends organization has contributed to lasting improvements at the facility while continuing its original purpose of supporting wildlife rescue and fostering a deeper connection between the community and Florida’s marine environment.
